Re: Flicker Alley
That cover art is amazing. Do FA ever have a sale? (Mind, it's probably going to be year's end or next year before I can buy any discs again).

They usually have a Black Friday sale, if memory serves

Re: Flicker Alley
Checking my email receipts, they had a sitewide sale last Cyber Monday and then a small sale on a few titles the December before that. As well as assorted single-title sales here and there. Don't expect amazing discounts, though - I haven't seen anything above 20% off.

A better bet might be to wait for Barnes and Noble's year end 40% off all Blu-rays sale

Flicker Alley's Blu-Rays are listed at almost twice MSRP to begin with on Barnes & Noble's website, though.

Okay, the best bet then is an elaborate nighttime heist of Flicker Alley's warehouse

Re: Flicker Alley
Someone at Blu-ray.com just posted an email reply they received from Joshua at Flicker Alley confirming two expected but as of yet unannounced December releases:
Hi Phil,
Thank you for reaching out. We have two more releases slated for this calendar year. The Film Noir Foundation has partnered with us on the release of Trapped. That title will hit the shelves on December 17th. We are also cueing up for a Soviet trilogy called, The Bolshevik Trilogy by V. I. Pudovkin. That will get released on December 17th as well. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Talk soon,
Joshua Hoover

Re: Flicker Alley
Can't wait to revisit Pudovkin's films. Mother seems to be a strong case of a film that was acclaimed everywhere for many decades, enough to be a symbol of soviet silent cinema next to Battleship Potemkin, but fell through the crack recently.

It is to be hoped that the Bolshevik Trilogy is on pressed discs.

Re: Flicker Alley
I assume that the Pudovkins will be from the Blackhawk library. It's the case that some of the versions of Soviet films (and "foreign" films in general) in that collection are a less than ideal (not the most integral versions or recent restorations), but I'd be curious to hear more about these specifically....

Re: Flicker Alley
Are there recent restorations of the Pudovkin films? From what I've read, the old 1999 Image DVD of Mother is from a 1968 print. I don't think I've ever seen another version.

Not sure! For instance, I don't know if the version of Storm Over Asia/Heir to Genghis Khan on the KinoAcademia series is likewise from a midcentury Gosfilmofond restoration or something newer. That's one of the ones in that series I haven't picked up yet.

Re: Flicker Alley
Lobster Films' Facebook page has a bit of a trailer for their upcoming release of the Pudovkins, which will probably give a good idea of what the Flicker Alley release will be like.

Re: Flicker Alley
As per their latest newsletter, Flicker Alley is releasing J.L. Anderson's Spring Night, Summer Night sometime next year.
This is another Nicolas Winding Refn restoration project, following Indicator's release of Night Tide. I wonder how many more of them will make it to disc.
