Re: Lord of the Rings
Sounds more like a Silmarillion (or perhaps Akallabeth) series....

They don't actually have the rights to the Silmarillion but events in the second age are covered in the appendix of Return of the King so can be used.Michael Kerpan wrote: âThu May 23, 2019 6:52 pmSounds more like a Silmarillion (or perhaps Akallabeth) series....
I always thought that seemed like the best direction to go in as you have the potential for the most LOTR like plot, grand in scale but also potentially shown at a relatively human level although really Tolkien only provides a basic framework there with almost all the writing needing to be original.

If they can't get the rights to draw upon Tolkien's own more detailed material, I'll give this a pass.

That does obviously put a lot more pressure on the production to be of good quality although even the Silmarillion would be providing more of a framework not covering most evens within it in the detail LOTR does , I'll probably wait and see what the early reaction is like before deciding whether to watch.Michael Kerpan wrote: âMon May 27, 2019 4:24 pmIf they can't get the rights to draw upon Tolkien's own more detailed material, I'll give this a pass.

Re: Lord of the Rings
Press release today states that J.A. Bayona is directing the first two episodes; I think that's a pretty good pick, Jurassic World sequel notwithstanding.
Also found out today that Gennifer Hutchison of Breaking Bad/Better Caul Saul fame is apparently in the writer's room, which is super encouraging.

For a moment, I was wondering when Joe Johnston got attached to this.
