Seems like the Murnau Stiftung has an 50th anniversary collection out with new Blu-rays/DVD´s and of course they are without any subtitles:

It would be nice if MoC could upgrade their old Asphalt DVD.

I do not understand some of these Columbia picks at all. Has Indicator already snatched up the cream of the crop?

Indicator have picked up about 80 Sony titles apparently, but there are still plenty they don't yet have. I asked them, and they don't have any of these yet:

The Big Gundown (Sollima)
Starman (Carpenter)*
Night of the Demon (Tourneur)
The Swimmer (Perry)
Beat the Devil (Huston)
Major Dundee (Peckinpah)
Born Yesterday (Cukor)
All the King's Men (Rossen)
The Member of the Wedding (Zinnemann)
Suddenly, Last Summer (Mankiewicz)
Fail-Safe (Lumet)
The Chase (Penn)*
Hard Times (Hill)
California Split (Altman)
The Front (Ritt)*
Husbands (Cassavetes)
Shampoo (Ashby)
Peggy Sue Got Married (Coppola)
Used Cars (Zemeckis)
Devil in a Blue Dress (Franklin)
Gattaca (Niccol)
To Sleep with Anger (Burnett)
Donnie Brasco (Newell)
Hope and Glory (Boorman)
King Lear (Brook)
Mothra (Honda)

I'm happy about both Drunken Master and Two Rode Together, and kinda suspected Born Free would come from Eureka too.

They're certainly not terrible choices, but others have been a bit more questionable - La Bamba, for example, or a barebones release of Roxanne. Just comes down to taste though...I personally love Lords of Dogtown, and Fright Night is certainly a popular title for them to have acquired (Indicator will have wanted that in particular).

Can't have 'em all though, I guess. Besides, Indicator have recently confirmed they have The Big Heat, Hardcore, The Deadly Affair and Mickey One, all of which could've easily been released under MoC. Question is how many of the above titles will Eureka get hold of?

EDIT: confirmed by Indicator that they will be releasing these*

Some Shaw Brothers titles would be nice. 88Films is mostly doing the horror and Venoms titles, so the ideal route for MOC would be the late 60s pictures. There are a couple of King Hus there for a start.

These are the Celestial HD transfers not owned by Dragon Dynasty or 88 Films. I've bolded the ones that I think would be good for Eureka.

Last week MoC tweets that their April announcements will be Feb 7, 4PM London time. The time comes and goes and nothing. Radio silence. (Unless they posted something on FB) Strange way of doing things over there now.

They posted this earlier on Facebook
Unfortunately our planned announcements later today, which included our April releases, have had to be postponed until later this week, or early next week, date to be confirmed. Sorry for any disappointment this might cause.

Psyched about Hard Times, being a fan of Walter Hill and having asking Indicator if they had it (they recently confirmed they didn't, so I suspected Eureka might have picked it up).

There should be at least one other April title. I suspect it could even be Drunken Master, based on a recent Facebook response from Eureka.

Excellent! Well that's me sorted for April then - I'll be pre-ordering both of those MoC titles (unless it turns out there's some reason I shouldn't).

I'm baffled by the lukewarm response or downright bitching from some quarters (not this site, mind). A Jackie Chan classic with the Cantonese track added and in 4k, and the combo of Walter Hill and Charles Bronson. What's not to like? Harmonium and the Keaton set still to come, and the hitherto definitive release of Variete. Got to say I'm more impressed by MoC's 2017 slate to date than I'm with Indicator's or even Arrow Video's (Alfredo Garcia, We are the Flesh and Raising Cain notwithstanding).

Lack of interest here probably says even more than the bitching elsewhere.

Drunken Master at least looks like it has some love put into it, the same of which cannot be said for a lot of their other Sony/Columbia picks so far. Their silent and some of their contemporary holdings, and the way in which those are being handled, represents a lot more their strong suit right now, IMO.

There must be a reason why they release so many not exactly exciting, somewhat second-tier American films these days. And I suppose the reason is: they sell, and probably much better than "Varieté" or "Der müde Tod" ever will.

Still, if they want to retain - or rather, regain - the status as the undoubtedly best UK label which they once had some five or seven years ago, they simply need to return to a much more adventurous release schedule. It's very difficult to understand why there are still no releases of films like "A Page of Madness", "Moana", or "Limite" even though all of these fabulous films had fine new TV showings or even commercial releases in other parts of the world. I just mention these three films because they'd fit into everything MoC once stood for.

I, and many others have become much less interested and excited by their announcements. I think there are several factors. The UK competition for film rights have grown expotentially over the last several years because of new labels or rejuvenated labels. I think the other factor is MoC's loss of personnel that were largely responsible for their halcyon days.

You're probably right about the personnel departures but I'm not so sure about the increased competition. No one is releasing the kind of films Eureka were 4-5 years ago or on dvd. Obviously American films sell but having been to well attended Gremillon and 'French Film Noir' retrospectives in London recently it makes me wonder if there really is no market for films like Panique or Pattes blanches?

I think it probably just boils down to less risk and effort involved in releasing studio titles.

Unless you have key individuals spuring on their passion projects, you're never going to get diverse releases.

Part of the issue is that passion projects, almost by definition, demand people willing to put more hours in than have been budgeted for.

As a current case in point, I've just been exploring Arrow's Story of Sin, and it's an astonishing labour of love on Daniel Bird's part, easily matching and arguably even exceeding The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne in 2015 - and yet I know that the production budget was much lower. Pretty much any other producer would have delivered something virtually barebones for what he had to play with.

Your job is to give us the blu-rays we crave, not make a stable living, Michael.
