Saw (James Wan, 2004)
I know this is technically from 2004 but I saw the re-release of Saw recently on Halloween. It was an interesting experience seeing it on the big screen as I didn't see it when it first came out, just on DVD. I mean, what I liked about the film was there. I liked the acting, I liked the story, really I liked everything about it and it's fascinating to see James Wan's beginnings as a director as opposed to now because the dude really managed to get away with a small budget even with the name actors involved like Cary Elwes and Danny Glover. Even when I watched it a dozen times, I still can't help but be amazed.

You liked the acting? Elwes is MST3K-level bad in that film.Movie-Brat wrote:I know this is technically from 2004 but I saw the re-release of Saw recently on Halloween. But worse in The Oogieloves. Oh, far worse and yet indelibly burned into my mind ("Do ya like buuuubbllllessss?"). Actually though "psychotically crazed" may be a more apt description of that performance.mfunk9786 wrote:Elwes is MST3K-level bad in that film.

Re: The Films of 2014
I didn't think he was that bad honestly. I feel that he was at his best when it came to the third act when he was in huge distress and beyond desperate. But honestly, I'm more fond of the structure of the film's story if anything.mfunk9786 wrote:You liked the acting? Elwes is MST3K-level bad in that film.

Re: Movie Theater Experiences
This is more of a pity post in a way but I was literally one of the only three people in the theater for my screening of the re-release of Saw. I kind of thought there'd be more people but I guess people have Saw fatigue.

Re: Movie Theater Experiences
This weekend was the 10th anniversary of the torture porn hit “Saw” and Lionsgate re-released the movie into over 2,000 screens, but this plot backfired; the rerelease flopped with $650k. That’s a pitiful $315 per screen average. And a hearty congratulations to "Saw: 10th Anniversary" as this is the worst opening of 2014 for any film in more than 2000 theaters and it is the third worst such opening ever since 1982, according to Box Office Mojo's chart.

Re: Movie Theater Experiences
I think it's definitely because it opened on Halloween itself more than anything; horror devotees that such a re-release would primarily appeal to, of course, would be doing something else the night of and there's almost no interest in seeing it whatsoever after the date itself.Movie-Brat wrote:This is more of a pity post in a way but I was literally one of the only three people in the theater for my screening of the re-release of Saw. Re: Movie Theater Experiences
Makes sense. Probably better if they would have put it out a week before but I guess we won't know until the 20th anniversary!

According to Box Office Mojo, it made $19 per screen yesterday, on those same 2k+ screens. $19 per screen. $19.domino harvey wrote:This weekend was the 10th anniversary of the torture porn hit “Saw” and Lionsgate re-released the movie into over 2,000 screens, but this plot backfired; the rerelease flopped with $650k. I just bought a ticket to Whiplash tonight in Union Square (NYC) and it was $15. Looking forward to the home video release: The Version No One Saw, featuring an exclusive edit of the film, giving you an interactive simulation of the 10th anniversary theatrical experience (same as standard version)

Lionsgate did just release a boxset celebrating the 10th anniversary, featuring all 7 movies on 3 Blu-ray discs.

The word nothing apparently describes the box set well given what I've been hearing. Like why would you give fans like the worst presentation for a franchise? Kind of a far cry from the royal treatment Lionsgate used to give the franchise.

Oh my God, there's 7 of those things!
Next people will be telling me there are 9 Hellraisers and one of them takes place in a video game.

Re: Saw (James Wan, 2004)
The producers are tempted to do Saw VIII however. Though the re-release might have discouraged them a bit.

Re: Saw (James Wan, 2004)
Not much of a surprise. Lionsgate is something of a different studio now. I really thought for awhile they'd just milk that by being a horror studio, but thankfully that's not the case.Movie-Brat wrote:The word nothing apparently describes the box set well given what I've been hearing.
