John Ottman can now be the Academy Award-winning filmmaker of Urban Legends: Final Cut.

Laura Dern deserves better than just having to shill for a glorified amusement park.

Need Domino in here to defend the Oscars because this feels like a funeral for this show
It doesn't seem especially egregious so far.

That was said before this introduction which is just garbage. I rescind though I'm glad Disney did not win this time.

They did the same thing to the makeup guys for Vice, though that was worse, because they didn't get that they were getting played off and kept rattling off names awkwardly

I usually feel bad for nominees who get played off, but those makeup people were a horrorshow

That's not entirely true. It's going to basically be a multiplex that can screen the AMPAS' enormous number of film holdings, in addition
to being a museum in the more traditional sense (artifacts from films on permanent display and touring exhibits).

It's just pathetic how the voters will cast their Best Animated Short vote for whatever the fuck Pixar releases, regardless of its quality.

Hot take from Al Jazeera's youth network, which only just seems to have realised that this year's Oscars is even happening:

Pixar usually doesn't win in the short category actually. Plus it was genuinely the best film nominated though not of the short list.

By my count, that’s Pixar’s fifth win in the Animated Short category.

I’m inclined to agree, especially since one was for TIN TOY, which was several years before TOY STORY made them famous.

That was good, including for how well he and Jackson are together. I also thought The Shallow was amazing as someone who hadn't heard the song before. Now I'm actually bumped for that film.

As far as I can tell, it's not being shown live on TV in China. Pretty surprising, as this used to be a Big Deal here. Was standard to have the Oscars live on one of the national CCTV channels.

The "In Memoriam" segment is what I dread every year. Off the top of my head, they didn't include screenwriter Teddi Sherman and Ron Miller.

It was weird how Takahata Isao was referred to as an "animation director" instead of just "director/writer", but whatever.

No Dorothy Malone. Kind of sucks when winning an Oscar doesn’t guarantee you a spot in the memorium PowerPoint.

Couldn’t have thrown a picture of Stanley Donen in yesterday before the ceremony?
