What a tightrope this one will be to walk. Hopefully it's true to the real story without being too much of a TV movie.

Would be crazy not to try to get Oscar Isaac to play Desi Arnaz, right?

Definitely makes the most sense. It probably depends on how old he's supposed to be. We'll probably get John Leguizamo.

He's 10 years younger than Blanchett, and Arnaz was 6(?) years younger than Ball? It'd make a lot of sense. Just please don't stunt cast Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen as Vivian Vance and William Frawley or something stupid like that, please

I didn't know he was that old. I thought he was a good 10 years younger.

I know you didn't mean it as a positive suggestion, but I bet Leguizamo would be great in a dialog-heavy Sorkin part, though I doubt he's going to be given the keys to a leading role at this point in his career

I did mean it as a positive if lesser than Isaacs suggestion. I was just watching an Ecuadorian film he starred in a decade ago and it is a pretty excellent performance.

Or Wilmer Valderrama, who just immediately came to my sister's mind

William Frawley: Jim Belushi? David Koechner? JK Simmons?

Vivian Vance: Margo Martindale? ...Kate Winslet + a couple dozen lbs if the audience squints? This one's more difficult.

Anyway, get Bennett Miller or someone like that to direct this and do it right, damnit.

Oh my God, mfunk, you should be casting this movie: Margo Martindale would be perfect as Vivian Vance, and JK Simmons would be inspired! I'm going to be disappointed by whoever we actually get

In order to become a member of the CSA community, you will need:

- Two or more years experience as an on-line Casting Director casting principal roles in Film, Television or Theatre (extras/background, commercials, short films, print work are not criteria for membership), to be defined as having received casting credit without the title "associate" or "assistant", and to be sponsored for membership by two full members in good standing of CSA and accepted by a vote of the Board of Directors.
- Sponsorship letters from at least two current Full CD members of the Society who know you and are familiar with your body of work
OR
- An invitation for membership extended to Casting Executives by the Board of Directors.
Well, fuck

Please stop making inspired casting decisions because now that I've seen all this I want it all and am going to be inevitably disappointed.

While Martindale does bear a resemblance to Vivian Vance, in reality Vance was only two years older than Lucille Ball. Martindale and Blanchett are nearly 20 years apart. I wouldn't mind seeing Toby Jones as William Frawley.

A quick Google search turned up this from a couple of years ago.

I'm sure he's very talented, but I just don't see a TV actor being cast as co-lead with one of the world's most talented and in-demand actresses. Michael Peña would be more plausible but still seems unlikely. I hope it's Oscar Isaac.

Diego Luna's also seems like he's enough in the zeitgeist to be feasible.

I've been hoping for Leguizamo since the initial announcement 2 years ago.

If the film is about their courtship and the production of I Love Lucy, then Arnaz was in his early-to-mid 20s when they were married, and the show began around 10 years after that. Both Bardem and Leguizamo are much too old for the part, particularly the latter. I’d go as far as to say that Blanchett is too old to play Ball, but at least she doesn’t carry her age on her face as much as someone like Bardem does.

According to the National Enquirer, Amy Schumer is being sought to play Vance, and Bardem for Arnaz

The most comforting thought about that piece of news is that it's from the National Enquirer.
