Those folks on the other Forum are speculating the 7 1/2 is for the length of film. They mentioned a Lav Diaz film or Satantango. I’m not sure about the former but I can’t see the latter. Arbelos did the restoration and said the bluray isn’t coming till 2020. They wouldn’t be OK with Arrow releasing it at least 6 months prior. It hasn’t even toured yet.

Couldn’t it be a hat or shoe size? I hate Arrow clues since they don’t play fair, so I’m not invested in solving, but I find it hard to believe even they would clue running time

Those are lazy ass clues if that’s what it is. Better off with no clues at all.

With the Jissoji set finally coming out I was trying to think of the last boxset that came out from the Academy line. It feels like it's been a long time. And I'm strictly talking about Academy's multi-film boxsets like the upcoming Jissoji (i.e like Godard, Rohmer, Yoshida), not collections like Makhmalbaf's Poetic Trilogy that didn't come in a box or even single film boxes like Eight Hours Don't Make a Day and Ludwig.

Human Condition trilogy in July 2018.

That's arguably a single film, and anyway, all that came out then was the standard edition--the limited edition was released in 2016

The Godard, Guitry, Jia, and Kore-eda sets were all early 2018, not that long ago really

Ah yep, forgot that was the re-release. Kore-Eda set was the one before that in March 2018.

Ah ok. I think between announcements and all of the delays it just felt like a long time.

And 2 BD releases for Old Boy : a 2-disc one and a 3-disc LE.
That'll teach me caving in for the German release.

Are you talking about the German UHD or a different release?

I bought this German BD release a year, after pondering for months whether or not. It wasn't that expensive, though.

It seems a good alternative to South Korea's pricey domestic release, except that it is missing the sixth audio commentary track.

Awww, man, that's disappointing if Arrow isn't adding any new features to the Cruising disc. I know it's getting a new 4K restoration and all but what the hell's the point if they won't/can't add anything new? It could be a hell of a release with some academic material of some sort.

Wasn't Mark Kermode supposed to do a commentary?

I know there was a whole thing on Twitter about this being a 3-disc set (with the Kermode track) that Friedkin and Warner Bros. shot down, but Friedkin chimed in to shoot that claim down, saying an elaborate edition like that was never planned. But I was still under the impression there would be something else. And there is, but it looks to be just recycling the DVD.

It always sounded like it'd be a big thing, and this release indeed seems very light instead to the point it's disappointing. You'd guess there's at least some space for analysis about its content in the then-context, etc, and yet.

On Old Boy : the German release does offer English subs for the main feature and is currently very cheap on Amazon.de. You'll miss the extra features though (including this ton of audio commentaries) but if you just want the new restoration, with English subs, it's currently 9€ (and comes with the OST CD).

Someone at the Blu-ray forum posted that Arrow pm'd them on Facebook and said
With regards to Cruising, due to approvals we are unable to include the commentary. AV
It'd be nice if Arrow released it as an MP3.

Fran Simeoni stated that Arrows 2019 schedule is completed for the year.

When asking what else they should release, he had some responses:

* Kenji Fukaskus Black Lizard has been something Simeoni had been wanting since he started working at Arrow
* Let's Scare Jessica to Death has also been on their to-do list for a while, but found it trickier to deal with Paramount
* A Bittersweet Life is also something Arrow has eyed, but have been holding back due to the film having a bad master
* Arrebato also is in line but they apparently need to get a hold of the rights producer

When asked about Moment of Innocence:
Would be lovely, if only there were greater enthusiasm for Iranian films! Would love to do more Makhmalbaf but more people need to buy The Poetic Trilogy first!
This is sad to hear. Although The Poetic Trilogy is still an odd choice to gauge enthusiasm for his work (or even Iranian cinema) as even just within his filmography there are far stronger films not to mention better known titles.

The Amazon UK price seems to toggle between £15 and £30. I’ll make a point of snapping it up the next time it drops. I saw Gabbeh at SFIFF ages ago, but haven’t yet seen any of his other work.

If they'd started with A Moment of Innocence their gauge would have been better. I'm interested in Makhmalbaf but the extras on said trilogy didn't make me rush out and bblind buy films I haven't seen
