And the Zhang Yimou set, like all Imprint releases, attempts zero shelf-space efficiency. No slim cases or swing trays to accommodate more discs--just one full-sized case for every individual film. It's a lovely looking cube, but it's at least two or three times as wide as it needs to be
This and the Hammer box they did I immediately threw out and sleeved the discs and covers. I don't do that for boxsets usually but when half of the contents is packaged air I just can't waste what little shelf space on it. I really hope imprint changes this.in 2022.

There's a website called DVD Beaver and I thought he was looking at porn...
He might've been!

He was looking at a Jess Franco Blu Ray page, which one? Your guess is as good as mine.

Quick Gary, they're onto you. You have at the most a day or two to scrub all the NSFW images off the site! Don't forget the Caligula page, which will take at least an hour of specifically concentrated attention!

No Gary, don't listen to them. Double down! More Caligula. More He Got Game. Don't let your art be silenced.

"Right that's Birth done. And Caligula. What next? Oh God, not Nyph()maniac!"
Insistent and growing louder knocking on the door
"Just a minute! I'm not decent!" Deletes the In The Realm of the Senses page
"Phew! Did I forget anything?" Scrolling and gets to the "G" section. Eyes alight on Peter Greenaway's name.
"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

As the limelight grows brighter, Gary starts gently sobbing when he realizes he reviewed Blier's Beau-pere

To be fair to Gary, it would be tricky to do a thorough review of Santo vs The Riders of Terror without covering the alternative Lepers and Sex cut, and since the additional material is all nudity...

Looks like I have missed a news cycle : where is the joke/fuss coming from ?

There are, IIRC, enough close ups or fitting shots that'd cover these without capturing nudity. That's what I'll do anyway.

If you go up a couple posts, there was an interview shared about actress Carrie Coon owning 10,000 Blu Rays and during it she quips that she thought DVDBeaver was porn when she saw her husband browsing through it and then the joke started that Gary would now need to take out all of his naughty reviews because of that initial joke.

The actress is Carrie Coon, Tracy Letts (himself an actor and a screen- and playwriter) is her husband.

I got the first bit of news, but wondered if people actually looked over DVD Beaver, realised how many screenshots made the site look like it's handled by Mr Skin and made Gary having to clean the site !

Just to be clear, did Gary end up avoiding more explicit screenshots after a certain point? I think I found DVDBeaver too late in the game (either that or maybe I haven't checked out the titles that would give Gary the opportunity to do this) because it honestly hasn't came across as anything that graphic when I've looked through it.

It's not so much that they're graphic, but that if a movie has a single frame of a naked butt or some boobs, you can be sure Gary will find it, and screencapture it.

There was a point about maybe two or three years (?) ago where he started hiding the NSFW pictures from plain view and you had to hover over to see them so I'm assuming either it occurred to him that the site should be a bit more NSFW-friendly or someone requested it. But I don't recall him ever posting actual hardcore images (say, the penetration inserts from The Idiots), even after the switchover to hiding the softcore stuff. The extra publicity from the Coon interview has got to be welcome because he's been begging for financial support for some time now, and he keeps posting the T&A stuff because it's had to have generated some traffic. It's still called DVDBeaver after all, and he knows full well that even before the Fallon interview, there was probably more people not associating it with the 50s show but the softcore smut instead. The Fallon audience probably didn't find it funny because it (only) made them think of Leave It To Beaver.

I'm playing for the other team so I was never the target audience for that kind of beaver in the first place, but his screen capturing method and that of some of his co-writers was controversial even in the DVD heyday (to the point that when Nick Wrigley justifiably complained about the MoC La Vie De Jesus screen caps, Gary seemed happy to throw Per-Olof Strandberg under the bus because if I recall correctly, Strandberg ceased contributing to the site shortly thereafter), and his reviews are the same cut and paste jobs as Atanasov's, so it really ceased to be useful for me quite some time ago. But I'll say this in defense of Gary: at least he doesn't seem to feel the need to troll his readers or pursue an agenda against boutique labels that appear to have disappointed Atanasov in some way.

Including in Peter Mullan's Orphans!

For all the joshing, I'm sympathetic to Gary and would like to believe that he chose the title of "DVD Beaver" because it conjures up the sense of the titular animal bringing individual reviews of discs together in order to build a larger structural resource of information, and was blithely unaware of the implications of the name in the same way that Jane Fonda needed the full implication of the title of one of her films explained to her by Graham Norton. Or at least that's the fence-sitting line I'll probably have to take when called to the witness stand just after domino is up there brandishing the printout of that damning Bertrand Blier film review.

Credit where it’s due, he also corrects factual errors, and he does it gratifyingly quickly. In fact, I genuinely don’t recall any exceptions - although the kind of things I flag up are such obvious and evidence-backed mistakes that they shouldn’t really be up for discussion.

I always thought it was simply because Gary’s Canadian, and the beaver is their national mascot.
