The Conan Chronicles: Conan The Barbarian & Conan The Destroyer

THIEF. WARRIOR. GLADIATOR. KING.

Ripped from the pages of Robert E. Howard’s beloved pulp stories, 1982’s Conan the Barbarian and its sequel, 1984’s Conan the Destroyer, not only popularized a new subgenre - the sword-and-sorcery film - but also made a cinematic icon of the star playing the titular hero, former bodybuilding sensation Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Conan the Barbarian, from maverick filmmaker John Milius, sees the Cimmerian thief and future king rise up from slavery to become an unparalleled and fearsome warrior, intent on vengeance against the evil snake cult that slaughtered his family long ago, led by the shape-shifting sorcerer Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). In the sequel, helmed by action veteran Richard Fleischer, Conan finds himself escorting a young princess on a quest for a mythical horn that will awaken a slumbering god, battling an onslaught of evil beasts, wizards and cannibals along the way.

At long last, these glorious odes to the days of high adventure have been restored in stunning 4K with hours of bonus features and heart-racing Atmos remixes that immerse you in the action, accompanied throughout by electrifying music scores by the late Basil Poledouris (RoboCop). If you do not listen… then to hell with you!

The Paul Sammon commentaries and Poledouris tribute sound great. I wish Poledouris’ student film from USC would finally be made available (he had intended to be a filmmaker himself, but he found himself in demand as a composer for his classmates)

I'm sure Arrow are on top of it, but they should know the BD release of Barbarian had to be replaced to add back in a missed day for night shot. It's during the scene where Arnie is running from the wild dogs and falls into the cave.

Crossing my fingers in the hope that Arrow eventually gets to Red Sonja as well.

Wasn't Red Sonja already released on 4k by Studio Canal?

wow. love both of these. the ambition of the Milieus film and Fleischer bringing his old school pro style to a more lightweight adventure.

this is something I could not even have hoped for.

took a very long time for the amazon USA pre order to be available to UK customers. only around last week was I able to get my order in.

hoping Arrow will do an amazing job and that someone will rescue Red Sonja outside of European territories due to the botched colour scheme of the current 4ks.

Packaging pics for the combo set on this page on the other forum: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.ph ... 60&page=99

It's funny but the first words my eyes caught when scrolling down to the booklet page was the word "Disney". Yes, it really seems Arrow have reached out to Disney and received some materials for the set.
I'm not holding my breath for anything but it's still notable and modestly reassuring that they have at least one foot in the door just in case.
