Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
If their other Hitchcock discs are like this, I'll be all the gladder for not having sold my Crit Notorious and the most recent MGM disc of Rebecca, not to mention the fucking awful covers they've designed for the Blus.

Looks OK to me. Probably they're using the same HD masters as their latest DVD releases.

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Not to nitpick, but I wish they kept the burned-in subtitle font from the original release. (in reference to the balcony scene)

Any comments on the "Phantom of the Paradise" Blu Ray? Is it out of print? I'd also rather like a BD of "The Fury".

Family Video has it for $19 shipped.Jeff wrote:The Apartment looks like it's going to be a Best Buy exclusive in the U.S. for a while.
It's also on Amazon.ca and Planet Axel but for $25 or so.

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Please note though, if you bring in a DVD, you will get $5 off at Best Buy. It doesn't have to be the same film.

That would be problematic, though, for non-English-speaking viewers. The non-English subs would have to appear in big, unattractive blocks to cover the burned-in English ones during that scene.hearthesilence wrote:Not to nitpick, but I wish they kept the burned-in subtitle font from the original release. Or they could simply be placed elsewhere on the screen.Feego wrote:That would be problematic, though, for non-English-speaking viewers. Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Midnight Cowboy and the Apartment were released as Best Buy exclusives today-- can anyone who picked them up in store confirm what they're going for?

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Midnight Cowboy was actually released as a Best Buy exclusive last May. I think I was able to get it for ten bucks at the time of release, but I believe the regular price was $20. The Best Buy website shows The Apartment as "unavailable" at all stores near me, so I'm still unsure as to what's up with this title. May have to order Canadian release.

Is the Midnight Cowboy release better than the UK blu?

I think the Best Buy exclusive of 'The Apartment' might be online only- anyway, I ordered it last night through their site and it shipped this afternoon ($19.99)

It's not a BB exclusive - Barnes and Noble also had The Apartment in-store today. FYI.

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
I picked The Apartment up along with the Woody Allen and Hitchcock Blus from Fox's online store. They're all $15.99 and there's a 10% off coupon floating around.

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Yeah. I picked it up at B&N as part of their buy-two-get-one deal which is going on until July 30. So strange that Amazon isn't stocking it. Best Buy and Target are online only. What a bizarre distribution move by Fox/MGM.Brian C wrote:It's not a BB exclusive - Barnes and Noble also had The Apartment in-store today. FYI.

Re: Fox/MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Thank God for MGM's hands-off approach to their catalog Blus, because Manhattan looks amazing, full of grain and detail. What a joy! Haven't popped in Annie Hall yet but I imagine it would be scientifically impossible to look worse than the prior MGM DVD...

I don't think you'll be disappointed, it looks fantastic as well and is obviously a whole new transfer.

Ha. Nope, just an idiot. Apparently I start typing a J month and have the attention span of a one-year old. The sale goes until January 30 (i.e. tomorrow).felipe wrote:July 30? Are you sure?Jeff wrote:I picked it up at B&N as part of their buy-two-get-one deal which is going on until July 30.

The MANHATTAN blu is a colossal upgrade over the DVD. Bravo, MGM/Fox.
