True Foes Own Summer of '05

Criterion's hard-nosed softball team, the True Foes, has long been known for its grit, enthusiasm, and sportsmanlike behavior. But this year, it has come to be known for something else—winning. Making a major leap forward from last year's 3-7 record, the True Foes proved a lot tougher than they looked as they sealed their first-ever winning season (5-4-1) with a 16-4 victory over the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission, on the sultry evening of Monday, July 25. It was a gratifying end to a great season, and the team looks forward to electrifying those in the Media and Government League for many summers to come. True Foes till the wheels fall off!

Check it.

if someone else had posted this thread, you would have closed it. :p

(just kiddin!!)

from above link this sounds like an exciting game!

5/19/2005 TRUE FOES MUCKRAKERS 14-13

The True Foes mounted a comeback from an early 10-0 deficit. They came back again to tie the score at 13 with 3 runs in the last of the 7th -- a rally that started with 2 outs and no one on. They won with a 2 out hit in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Someone "ask jon mulvaney!" who hit the winning run? #-o

And it ain't over 'til it's over. The True Foes have made the playoffs. Their first playoff game is against El Destructo Monday, August 1st, 6 PM at the Con-Ed field -- 16th St. and Avenue C.

Be sure to go there to cheer them on, demand a Rivette box set, and maybe bring some ear plugs 'cause that field is almost under the FDR drive...

Maybe the rumor about the ringers in the cover art department WAS true.

They probably have a couple in their webpage department as well considering the shoddy way the August titles were posted. I think Boudu still has claim over two spine numbers on their webpage. Still, you can't put a price on a great clean-up hitter and a solid short-stop.

HA, ha, ha, ha! I've only just 'got' their name!

True Foes = Truffaut!

If only they had showed as much enthusiasm in getting his key film released without a load of glaring glitches.

El Destructo clobbered the True Foes on Monday 19 - 4, eliminating them from the playoffs.

By the way, who's spearheading the Fantasy Corporate Softball pool? Someone should really get on this for next season.

Quite a turnaround. Perhaps the Criterion softball team discovered steroids during the off-season?

Could be ... I hear they brought in Rafael Palmeiro as a hitting coach during the off-season. Out of gratitude, they've given Rafy the opportunity to do a commentary track on an upcoming release of either Nick Ray's Bigger Than Life or Sascha Guitry's 1936 Le Roman d'un tricheur (aka The Story of a Cheat).

It's sort of been done...see here for the results for the 5-27-07 game between the Found Film Footage team versus the Filthy Film Festival Entrants team of the Cosmic Baseball Association. Scroll down for the rosters for each team.

I now play softball every sunday with a bunch of folks from our local music scene, we even entered a 4 province tournament with 64 teams from alberta, BC, saskatchewan, and Manitoba. It's gonna be a hell of a lot of fun.

It would be freakin sweet to take on the True Foes.

Do we know where (in Central Park, I presume) they play? That might be a good place to brace them for answers on things like, say, exactly which Rivettes they're teasing us with. And, give Tamara the ring if I like her answer.
