Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Sorry folks, was temporarily caught up in the mountains enjoying the sights; but nothing can stop the Speculation Rodeo! (Dec 19)
Until the End of the World - Janus tour + on Criterion Streaming; but no immediate hints of announcement
Old Joy - July '19 Newsletter clue
The Story of Temple Drake - Aug '19 Newsletter clue
Tunes of Glory - The march of random upgrades; not speculated!
=======================================================================
-236 upgrades remain
-Prince of Tides (May '19) is only remaining newsletter clue
-Bringing Up Baby / Children of Men + a better answer for the clock clue (than 1984) still have until announcements are made on Dec 19. Whatever ends up being the sled clue will remain on the list indefinitely until announced.
-I missed this last month, but I've been a member here for 10 years now! I've spent 1/3 of my existence on this forum and I still get nervous making posts! I'm not going anywhere anytime soon (despite my brain trying to do otherwise); so be prepared for another 10+ years of Minkin at this forum. Thanks everyone for all the memories, laughs, deals, criticisms, and quality time; I love all of you!
==========================================================
As for the Cowpoke of the Month ......
Its with a heavy heart that I must give the results back: nobody was able to best the bull this month. But all isn't sorrow, for in these times we have a new category: most stylish rider of the Month (an equivalent award to Cowpoke of the Month).
And without any doubt, the most Stylish Rider of the Month is .....
Graphist
For their puzzling use of emojis for their speculation! Please pickup your stylish Lariat at the concession stand!
====================
And with that Rodeo, we say farewell to 2019 and all of the many Cowpokes! And for those who missed out at the coveted lariat, fear not - for there will be many more opportunities in 2020! For those who compete yet fall short - fear not, for you're the loveliest of souls; and you're just prisoners of the fine white lines of the freeway...

At an 80th birthday celebration screening of The Last Picture Show and Saint Jack today, Bogdanivich said he’s trying to get Criterion to release the director’s cut of Texasville.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
A former member here in the industry professionally edited a composite version, but unfortunately I lost the copy he sent me! Criterion releasing it would be a favor to the director, as it’s soooo different from the first that it’s honestly not a good fit for the label. I could see KL swooping in and picking it up already though, so maybe Criterion is working on something

They should have released it in December so we could all watch it for New Years though!

They'll announce it in December so that it'll be released after the February/early March sale, because they hate us.

Or they’ll pair spine numbers with Bringing Up Baby and give us the screwy Valentine’s Day we deserve in 2020.

Not sure if mentioned, couldn't find on search, but Tony Richardson's The Entertainer is playing with Janus credits at BAM/Pacific.

American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince. Did we know about this? This early Scorsese documentary only runs 55 minutes. Wasn't there rumor of a Scorsese shorts set at one point?

It played on TCM with a Janus logo, so I had it on the list. The Scorsese shorts set has been bandied /rumored for ages. Maybe one day we'll get it!ianungstad wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 8:07 pmhttps://hollywoodsuite.ca/januscriterion/

Watch the blu-Ray come out in January. I held off for as long as I could on the BFI, to see what Criterion does with it, but there was a BFI sale on Amazon, so I finally broke down & it should arrive any day now.Cinephrenic wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 1:19 pmNot sure if mentioned, couldn't find on search, but Tony Richardson's The Entertainer is playing with Janus credits at BAM/Pacific.
Speaking of that British New Wave tour, of the titles Criterion hasn’t already released, The Servant & Darling are credited to Rialto, The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner & Seance On A Wet Afternoon & Look Back In Anger are Janus.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Also at PFA is the Kiarostami retrospective with everything (including shorts) credited to Janus or IFC except Five Dedicated To Ozu (MK2). Now that Koker trilogy has been released (which oddly is not in the retrospective), what’s the chance we’ll get a comprehensive box rather than titles being individually released/upgraded (over a long period)?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
The Koker Trilogy was definitely in the BAMPFA Kiarostami retrospective. It’s just that all of the screenings of those three films have passed. I saw And Life Goes On there last month.
