I knew nothing about this film before it was announced, but I've got to say after watching some trailers and reading about the film, this looks fascinating. It seems like Second Run has once again put together a great set of extras. Does anybody happen to know if all the films listed under "Selections from the Dawson Film Find" will be included in their entirety or will there only be clips?

It specifies reel 2 for the Browning so I'd guess the others are complete.

"It manages to blur the line between the spiritual and a dream-like state, creating something truly rare, abstract and wonderfully alien. [...]
This feels like a culmination of a journey Morrison has been on for much of his directorial career. The richness of the footage at his disposal, combined with his innate understanding of the material, and the use of an otherworldly score turn this into an experience every film fan needs to be part of. This just arrived yesterday and I watched it last night. I have to say, it was significantly more moving than I expected. As both a film lover and a history buff, I was captivated from beginning to end. I kept waiting for the "slow middle" portion that some reviewers mentioned and to be honest I now have no clue what they are even talking about.

Can't wait to dive into the extras tonight!

"Rarely if ever have I seen documentary filmmaking and arthouse experimentation work in such perfect harmony as it does in Bill Morrison's DAWSON CITY: FROZEN TIME. It's a film that fascinates and educates as it aurally and visually thrills, a detailed history lesson passed through the lens of a visionary artist that manages to be simultaneously challenging and accessible.[...]
this excellent Blu-ray, which for me is one of Second Run's best yet and gets our highest recommendation."

Despite my predilection for Eastern and Central European cinema, Dawson City is one of my favorite SR releases. The interweaving of the gold rush, rapacious white-settler greed, environmental destruction, and cinematic history (the latter including both the history of various films but also the physical history of the medium) doesn't create a singular, overarching "meaning," but the philosophical meditation is clearly the point here. (I mean hell, what is "frozen time" if not an invitation to ponder?)

Looking forward to watching the extras this weekend. But this is definitely worth a blind-buy.

A great write-up by Kristin Thompson, though she also writes the booklet for the Second Run release. It fills in more details that will be of interest - lots of spoilers though. (FYI, this title is part of Arrow's Easter sale going on right now.)
