BD 128 Three Days of the Condor

#1 Post by rapta » Wed Feb 03, 2016 9:15 am

Coming April 11th
Robert Redford and director Sydney Pollack teamed up for their third collaboration on THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, a sinuous tale of deceit and corruption, as well as one of Hollywood's finest conspiracy thrillers of the 1970s.

Redford stars as Joe Turner, a junior analyst in the C.I.A., scrutinising published texts from around the world for coded messages. But once he discovers an unusual anomaly, his own existence comes crashing down, with every error carrying fatal consequences.

Taught and engrossing, with astonishing modern-day relevance, and fabulous supporting turns from Faye Dunaway, Cliff Robertson, John Houseman and the great Max von Sydow, the Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present its first ever home video release in the UK in a special Dual Format edition.

SPECIAL FEATURES including:
  • New high-definition presentation
  • English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • PLUS: A booklet featuring new writing and archival images
  • More to be announced!

Before I venture a review (on the film, not the new edition, obviously) I thought I'd share an interview with one of the screenwriters, Lorezo Semple Jr., who recently passed.

Blu-ray gives this a rather confusingly somewhat negative (or at least not very positive) review

Surely ~80 minutes of substantive video bonus features, 20 of which were made for this release, and an MoC booklet warrants a better Extras score than 2/5?

Great links. Thanks. One of weaknesses of the film is its lack of humor (I don't mean Redford's intermittent goofiness). The possibility (and/or probablity) that the whole ordeal is a fantasy of the supposedly bookish Condor is never considered. Might have given some levity to the proceedings. Some of the stuff is funny.

After Strangelove? Really?

I just saw this recently for the first time. Not only was it dull as hell, the politics of the movie were so dopey I couldn't take it at all seriously. It's a good reminder as to why a liberal should never attempt to make a Costa-Gavras film.

I was under the impression that Costa-Gavras was a liberal.

Costa-Gavras is certainly not a liberal. He is a Marxist.
