You wonder if they found a competent zookeper to do the commentary (though I'm guessing Joe McBride)

Excited to revisit. Caught a 35MM screening advertised as IB Tech years ago and it certainly was not and this bothered me the entire time and took me out of the film.

They haven’t been finally able to clear the music rights with Jimmy Page perchance, or is there still too much bad blood there?

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I wasn't fond of his Breakdown commentary (I think it was that film).
But better than them getting Quentin Tarantino to say "alright?" for the duration of Daisy Miller, and talk about who his mother had sex with while he was at the drive-in.

Hugely underrated, disturbing indie work. Kazan clearly trying to go the same route as his wife Barbara Loden’s Wanda, and while not as successful, it has a lot going for it.FrauBlucher wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:02 amComing Soon on Blu-ray!

Well, that's a wonderful surprise. I suppose it is only a matter of time before the trickle of Godard UHDs becomes a flood.

I wonder if KL will be the ones to release King Lear and not Criterion

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I don't want to get my hopes up because unlike King Lear, a NEWER 4K restoration of Alphaville had premiered at MoMA last year (late April) then shown at IFC, so the likelihood of a UHD was much greater once we knew an updated 4K digital master that had yet to see physical release existed. What A Disgrace wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 12:22 pmWell, that's a wonderful surprise. Whoa, my first Godard! That's really great news. I was watching the Kino blu last year and thought it looked great so this will be an easy upgrade. That Tim Lucas commentary was really good.

Yeah, as much as I love Godard I'd rather get blu-ray releases of all his key films, seemingly trapped in purgatory, before the UHD push for already-stellar releases. But I'm happy about it, and as long as they're pushing out 4Ks at a certain pace, I'll certainly take it over shlock like Death Wish and Indecent Proposal!beamish14 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 2:47 pmWhat A Disgrace wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 12:22 pmWell, that's a wonderful surprise. Molly Ringwald was at Criterion's office earleir this week and their post didn't mention any current projects she has, so maybe it was a rare closet picture related to an interview for a release.

Just kidding, no you're not alone. Though I'd rather see upgrades of Notre Musique, 2 or 3 Things I know About Her, JLG/JLG: Self-Portrait in December, Nouvelle Vague, King Lear, and Une femme est une femme

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
This is kind of how I feel about most of the pre-70s film canon beyond the obvious “begging for UHD” titles like North by Northwest and perhaps something like The Leopard. Quite honestly, I love Godard, but I really don’t need most of his films in UHD, although Pierrot Le Fou could certainly use a newer master.therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 3:54 pmYeah, as much as I love Godard I'd rather get blu-ray releases of all his key films, seemingly trapped in purgatory, before the UHD push for already-stellar releases. On a side note, Kino’s Alphaville release doesn’t have a street date yet. It just says late 2024, so I imagine StudioCanal will do a 4K at around the same time but just haven’t announced it yet. I do think the UHD push for a lot of classic films that aren’t exactly “visual spectacles”, such as Alphaville, is starting to reach “overkill” levels if I’m being perfectly honest. It’s like “we’ve already had stellar and not cheap boutique releases of so many of these titles over the last 12-15 years. Just chill.”
That said, Last Year at Marienbad probably wouldn’t look bad in UHD.
UHD is obviously a no brainer for stuff like Blue Velvet and Days of Heaven.

‘2 or 3 Things’ does have a pretty good French Blu-ray, although it’s not English-friendly unfortunately.therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 12:03 amFin de Amitié!Walter Kurtz wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 5:05 pmDitto.
